Palin Outraged, Outraged at events
Gov. Sarah Palin and her husband Todd were outraged at an event this week. The governor and her husband joined the rest of the nation in expressing their sadness and sorrow over the event.
The governor took time from her busy scheduling studying domestic and foreign policy issues to make the rounds of media outlets for interviews and even took time to issue press releases.
It is only understandable that the governor would do this. Dozens of other leading politicians and even representatives from other countries all took the time to express their outrage and sadness upon hearing of the attack by James von Brunn, 88, at the U.S Holocaust Memorial in Washington, D.C. and the murder of security guard, Stephen Tyrone Johns, 39.
I must for once agree that Gov. Palin did the right thing in...
Once again, you'll see how difficult it is to write a legitimately good news story about Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska when Palin refuses, or is incapable, of understanding politics, as it is done on the national level. Not to mention just understanding and doing the right thing.
The governor’s outrage was not at the attack by an armed hateful, neo-Nazi, who shot and killed another human being.
No, it was outrage over a joke David Letterman told about Palin's daughter having sex with a baseball player. A joke which Letterman, rightfully so, later admitted was in "poor taste."
What are Mike Nizich, the governor's chief of staff and communications director, Bill McAllister thinking?
The two top advisors to the former republican vice-presidential nominee could have done better. Perhaps this:
"Although Governor Palin and her husband were upset by the comments of David Letterman regarding their daughter, they do not wish to comment beyond that other than to say they accept Mr. Letterman's apology. More importantly this is a day when the governor and her family wish to express their condolences to the family of security guard, Stephen Tyrone Johns who was murdered in the attack on the U.S Holocaust Memorial. The governor is saddened that such hateful dialogue exists in America that could incite someone to act with violence against others. It is time for the nation to commit itself to a civil, respectful dialogue, even when we disagree, and to speak without hate or prejudice."
That's a first draft. A first draft of a message that Nizich and McAllister could have considered. A tempered, intelligent, thoughtful and serious response. One that slowly takes their "candidate" out of the world of jokes and comedians and into the mainstream of America.
"When I was a boy I was told that anybody could become President; I'm beginning to believe it." ~Clarence Darrow.
The Palin team had hours before deciding how they should respond to Letterman. Their "weak" response shows only an effort to speak to their small core of supporters, at a time when they need to be attempting to build a broader base.
